DirtCap™ [Screenshot Capture Utility]

Recommended Posts

Here at The Dirthut we (me) are always looking for new things to bring to the community, to improve it and fix it and make it bettererer, well the introduction to the NEW and EXCITING Dirthut Screencapture service is just one of those improvements!

It's super easy to setup! Probably more reliable that Gyazo! Super awesome looking! And.... yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (Really it's completely pointless compared to screencap services you can get online but it's pretty cool... swaggggg)

  • Download ScreenCloud from https://screencloud.net/ - This is the opensource Windows/Linux/Mac application that we use, developed by ' olav-st'
  • Install the program to whatever location on your computer you desire!
  • After installing, launch ScreenCloud and select "I want to use ScreenCloud without an account"
  • Read through the help tips and get used to the interface :)
  • 'Start ScreenCloud when my computer starts' - Strongly Recommended!
  • You will then find the ScreenCloud icon in your taskbar, click on this: a853f978d672b4e9248230fb540f7062.png
  • Click on this and enter the 'Preferences...' page (Follow images below)

In the 'Online Services' tab, ensure FTP service is installed. Do this by clicking on 'More Services...' and selecting it

After clicking 'OK' return to the 'Online Services' tab, click on FTP and then click on 'Settings...' in the bottom left of the window.

These are the settings you are going to want to enter in this window:

Host: thedirthut.com Port: 2121

Username: ScreenCloud

Password: pass

URL: http://www.thedirthut.com/img/ OR https://www.thedirthut.com/img/

Folder: /

Name: {rnd_h}

Now click 'Save'

With this program, you can take screenshots by clicking on the ScreenCoud icon in your system tray, and selecting one of the three options

Alternatively (and preferred by myself; use the Hotkeys - These Hotkeys can be changed at any time in the 'Preferences...' window within the 'Hotkeys' tab)

For a test, we are going to screencap a region (ALT+SHIFT+2). You will then see a translucent window appear which tells you how to use the application - one step which I picked up very quickly is that this does NOT take the screencapture from when you release mouse click, rather after you press ENTER or RETURN on your keyboard. Follow the on-screen instructions :)

After doing this, you might hear a sound to indicate that you have taken the screencap, then a window will popup:

You are going to want to leave the 'Name:' box as it is. Change the 'Save to:' location to FTP and we don't need to worry about 'Settings...' as we already configured this! Finally, CHECK the tick box which says 'Always do this and don't ask me again'

FINALLY, once you click 'OK' the URL of the image that you just took will be copied to your clipboard (Indicated by a notification sound). This means that you are instantly ready to paste this link into chat, or paste it in an e-mail, or paste it in the 'Image' BBCode for these forums! (Like I have done for this entire guide :D)

Next time you take a screenshot, this box will not popup and the URL will be copied to your clipboard right away! It takes a few moments to get used to this new program, but after a few practices, you'll have the 3 hotkeys down in no time and you'll be used to pressing enter right away!

Also note that you CAN disable the notification and screenshot sounds in the 'Preferences...' window under the 'General' tab! (I would also recommend ensuring that this program does 'Run on startup'

New features are being added to this program. I understand that a .gif capture service may be in the works, along with a pre-upload photo editor ;)

If you have any issues, please report them here and I will try to help, however realise that I can only provide limited support from a Windows OS, as I am new to this too!

ENJOY <3 Kappa /
