  1. A modded Minecraft server is FINALLY here! The server will be WHITELIST ONLY because there are way too many things that can go wrong with a modded server and I do not have the time or knowledge with mod-packs to restrict certain things. Also it avoids hackers coming on to the server and ruining everything. If you want to be whitelisted, then please comment bellow and follow the format at the bottom of this post. RULES: The same rules which are in-place on the vanilla Minecraft server are STILL in-place. Those can be read here: LINK No exploiting blocks/tools/items in the mod-pack to bypass protections and cause deliberate grief. If you do not know what a block/tool/item does, it is best NOT TO USE IT. Do some research or you may be seen as deliberately griefing. There is no protection on the server - This is not an over-sight, but being that the server will be whitelisted, I see no reason not to trust anyone who has been whitelisted. Try to build big, exciting inventions away from spawn. Avoid travelling between worlds too much, they are horribly optimised and may result in a temporary server crash (kicking everyone online) Be aware that anyone may be removed from the whitelist WITHOUT WARNING. This will NOT have been an accident and you are free to question why you were removed by sending me a Direct Message here on the forums, or emailing me (See signature) The moderation team for this server is VERY LIMITED. Aside from myself, everyone else has very little power. Why? Because it's a whitelisted server with trusted people. Moderators will still be able to assist with some things, but they will mainly be just a 'badge' on the server, they will still be there playing the game with you, with absolutely no access to gamemode/God-mode or cheating their way through the mod-pack experience. Yes they can kick/ban you but they probably won't.... maybe. Download Feed The Beast here: http://www.feed-the-beast.com/ When the installer is downloaded, select the "FTB Infinity 1.7 (v1.8.2) Minecraft Version 1.7.10" and ensure you change 'Recommended' to '1.7.0' WHITELIST APPLICATION: In-game Minecraft Name: Approximately how long you have been on The Dirthut?: Have you played Feed The Beast before?: Have you played on any modded Minecraft before?: If you are accepted, you will be able to join the server at: ftb.thedirthut.com | thedirthut.com:25569 Users who are donator level 'Super Awesome' and 'Level 3' Have been added to the Whitelist already. If you need to be added to a group then please let me know. Currently there are little benefits to being in donator-level groups, but I do plan to add more benefits!
  2. So yesterday you may have noticed all Dirthut things went offline, it's because I was upgrading from the old Windows Server 2008 R2 Operating System to the newer and more feature-full Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition. Why did I do this? Well I personally like staying on top of technology, ensuring I'm running the latest technology with the latest software, so, although we were functioning fine before, after ~140 DAYS of 100% server uptime (network uptime is a different matter) it was time to upgrade the server! I took extensive backups to ensure no data would be lost in the process, and even though the upgrade process did not go as smoothly as I had hoped for, all files were loaded, all services and features were installed, Windows Update had a field day and then all servers were re-deployed! Advantages for you? There aren't many, really... The server does use a lot less RAM than before, and doing a clean install did free up a few dozen GBs of space. Read/Write/access speeds may be quicker, but I feel the main bottleneck of the server is still in the network, so... MEH! Future possibilities? As I now have Hyper-V working and an understanding of how to use it, servers can now be virtualized in a cluster, having a separate Virtual server hosting the web server, others handling game servers etc. This will mean that should one server need to update due to a new program install (i.e. installing Java, installing a new Microsoft framework required to run 'X' game server) the Virtual Server can be restarted, which ONLY affects the servers being hosted on that Virtual machine, meaning no other servers (TeamSpeak/Website) are affected! I'll also probably mess around with Active Directory, and User groups - primarily because it's interesting but this will be local only, so you won't even know about it! Other future updates: I do kind of want to make the Screen Sharing tool more accessible. I don't like how I'm storing THOUSANDS of pictures which you can't access again unless you have the direct link, however I don't want to make all screenshots accessible to everyone, because some of you may be saving... inappropriate things to my server. (Which is TOTALLY FINE ) So I'll consider how to do that. FINALLY, we may be adding a second virtual server to our TeamSpeak server - A server which looks completely different, is served by a completely different port, but is running off of the same license and server and everything. Why is this happening? .... Secret! SHHH!
  3. JOIN NOW AT: mc.thedirthut.com The Dirthut is BACK and better than ever (maybe) with a new and improved Minecraft server on a totally NEW map and NEW Server computer! This means that there will be less server crashes, more backups and an overall more stable Minecraft experience! We may be able to take in a larger number of players, but until I can be sure, I will continue to limit the Minecraft server to 25 players until there is a greater demand OR my internet stops being the main bottleneck. Upon joining this new server you will spawn here (see picture) you should read the areas marked by the red arrows which are the SERVER RULES After walking EAST out of spawn for a bit, you will come across these houses (marked in the image below) feel free to enter these houses at any time to learn more about a few of the plugins we have on the server and about chat! Alternatively: /warp lockette & /warp chat & /warp protect will take you to these houses too! There are also other places in spawn that you should go out and explore yourself, for example - Behind spawn is the Moderator/Donator building, to the left of spawn is the Dirthut train station, and to the right are the docks/lighthouse! Spawn is about 200 blocks in radius so you will have to travel a little bit before you can start building and currently the map is limited to a world boarder of 5000 blocks! This will be expanded over time! The entire map can be viewed by clicking the "Dynmap" tab at the top of this page! Now, without further ado, here is a totally over-the-top epic swag swag release video trailer epik m8 video: For the best experience, watch in full-screen 1080p
  4. The Dirthut has a new server! Thanks to the immense support from the Dirthut community, I have been able to afford and put together parts for a brand new server computer. This upgrade not only increases the look of the Dirthut community, but also expands possibilities in server hosting! I am looking to expand our servers as soon as we have returned to normal operations, with the Minecraft server, TeamSpeak and Forums. I will be taking suggestions from the community on what servers to host, but ONLY after we have returned to this normal operation and everything is stable. This new server will result in improved reliability and redundancy, however this does not mean all issues will be resolved straight away. In the initial stages, there are likely to be many restarts due to updates and re-configurations. Furthermore, it is important to note that the server is still being hosted from home, on the same internet connection. I will be actively working on improving the up-time, but there are never any guarantees, this is important to remember. I hope now that we have a more capable server, the Dirthut will continue to grow as a community, and at an even faster rate. We will be working with other communities to build a safe and fun environment for gamers to come together and enjoy themselves. The Dirthut is all about keeping people together, and I have made it a big part of my life and hope to continue doing what I do, for the betterment of others. Again, thank you for all of the continued support and donations, and an EXTRA special thanks to ConnorJSmart and Baker2491 who both contributed a HUGE amount to the completion of the server! Follow their Twitters here: @ConnorJSmart @pntsteven Upon receiving all parts for the server, some people wanted me to stream the creation - although it's not any different than building any other computer, but anyway, I did stream it and a cool-sick-MLG montage of it is below. I built it to the point of it being able to function, but then went off camera to sort out the cable management and ensure it was setup for the best operation, but didn't stream that part as it's tedious, but anyway... ENJOY!
